LACD PROFILE
Since its formation, LACD’s activities have always been developed and implemented Programs in hard-to-reach communities in the southeast of Liberia (Maryland, River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Sinoe and Rivercess counties) and Grand Bassa, Margibi, Bomi and Grand Cape Mount Counties. The organization has a strong network and partnership with communities and local authorities in counties like Grand Bassa, Margibi, Montserrado, Rivercess, Sinoe, Grand Cape mount, Bomi, Grand Kru, Maryland, River Gee and Grand Gedeh counties. Our approach to community intervention is based on the principle of meeting the real needs of our beneficiaries. To achieve this, we strive to ensure that beneficiary communities are fully engaged in the design and implementation of project activities. Our approach to building cohesive societies over the past few years had been focused on empowering communities to have sustainable livelihoods through agriculture. Our previous and current activities are participatory and community-driven. As per our five years strategies plan.
The organization developed a demonstration site in Grand Bassa in 2013 for cassava production to test cassava varieties that can be grown in Liberia. This self-initiative helped identified different varieties of cassava that can be grown in the county. In the same year, LACD provided support to local farmers under the same self-initiative/program for vegetable production in Barclayville, Grand Kru County, to help promote seeds multiplication for local farmers.
SELF-INTIATIVEs
At the formative stage of the Liberia Agency for Community Development or LACD, the organization created a trial sites for cassava variety production to test cassava variety that can be grown in Liberia, specifically in Grand Bassa County between July 2013 and April 2014 and the undertaking achieved the desired fruitful result. During the same period, the organization also gave input support to local farmers under the same self-initiative program for vegetable production in the City of Barclayville, Grand Kru County to help promote seeds multiplication (seeds bank) for local farmers.
